W. David Lilley Jr. is an outside artist, poet, and writer who specializes in the cohesive collaboration of watercolors and minimalistic imagery. He began his artistic endeavors in 2009 by watering down acrylics and moving them around on framed canvas’ to create colorful, vibrant abstract works. While living in major cities of Texas such as Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio he developed a love for graffiti and mural artwork and by 2012, he fully converted to using watercolors and introduced a minimalistic, stencil style imagery to his colorful abstracts. Today, David currently pursues his career in Upstate New York, mastering his skills to converge the intricacy of fine art with the pronounced imagery of street art.

The Art.

With the use of watercolor, gouache, and ink paints David focuses his art pieces around vibrant colors and a defined use of imagery. His works are created from the basis of deep philosophical and theological precepts simplified into a minimalistic object. His intent is to introduce an observer to an intricate concept through the door of a simple image. The fluidity of the color portrays the feeling of movement, while the subject of the painting is solid and still. He does this to convey the idea that truth, while steady and unmoving in their foundational understanding, still brings movement and life to our experiences.

The Poetry.

Having grown up in a Christian home, David found himself reciting old hymns and songs from the earliest of years. This upbringing birthed a passion in music and especially writing. The cadence and rhythm along with the theological and philosophical overtures are a direct influence of the early hymns. Throughout his life he has used many forms of writing to express his deepest thoughts, sorrows, and joys in hopes to connect humanity to the Divine.
